Tue 18th Feb 2014Annual Presentation Night
Barnsley Harriers held their Annual Presentation Night at Shaw Lane last Friday to recognise all the great achievements in the Club during 2013. There were 59 awards in total, including a broad range of internal competitions covering all disciplines and ages, and individual awards for outstanding achievements. The Black and Tan Challenge, a multi-terrain 16 race competition was won by Lady Vet 45 Jo Birkinshaw, with senior lady Sarah Burton in runner up spot. The Mens winner was Rich Spooner with 7 wins from 8 qualifying races and the joint runners up were V45 Steve Whiteley and V50 Bryan Clayton. The Road Rankings winner, featuring 5M, 10km, 10M and half marathon distances, was once again Rich Spooner with Lee Smith a worthy runner up. Spooner completed the hat trick by being voted the Runner of the Year by his club mates, in recognition of some terrific times especially at marathon distance. Ladies joint winners of Runner of the Year were Anita Fish and Jo Birkinshaw, the product of some great all round effort throughout the year. Best newcomers of 2013 were Scott Briggs and Gaby Wolferink. The Awards for the Most Improved Runners of the Year went to Janine Brown and Paul Dodd, both showing great strides forward through 2013. The Club Member of the Year is voted for by the membership and rewards achievements on many levels. This year's joint recipients, Anita Fish and Amanda West have done brilliant work initiating and organising Walk to Run and starter groups for new or potentially new members. Their efforts have been outstanding and the results spectacular. - ElPresidente

Folks, just on the off-chance, should anyone end up with a spare Snake Lane number I would quite like it please, not for me but for Big John Hewitt who, like many this year, missed out on a place. Cheers. - Jerzy

Sorry boys and girls… I did say I’d sort this again and now here it is. Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to lead this year due to injury but hoping to be back running soon and running VLM off my own “plan”. It’ll need someone to organize Sunday runs – I see there is already one this week – and also the Friday 5 milers if people want to meet to do that. We have met at the Club or a pub at 6.30pm in the past. I’ve got loads of Garmin routes btw if anyone wants them. Fire away with any questions via club web or fb or at the club, when I’m there. Cheers and good luck everyone! - ian- ElPresidente, 2014-01-03

Wed 11th Dec 20132014 Black n Tan and Club Leagues.
For newer members, The BlacknTan is our year long competition that all members are automatically enrolled in. We can post a deeper explanation soon but in the meantime you can get a feel by looking at the "BnT" section on the left hand menu. The Club Leagues on the other hand are "opt in" - you have to let us know you'd like to take part as below. Again, there is a "Club Leagues" section in the menu. As Rich said below...once again next year the Leagues will be 'reconstituted' and drawn up on a voluntary basis. Instead of promotion and relegation, this allows new members the opportunity to enter, and continues to pitch runners of equal ability against each other. We will take runners' times from recent races (where possible) to determine which League each should be in. If you'd like to be 'in', please either respond here, on facebook or to Ian, Rich or Jerry at the Club. We need names by mid January to put the Leagues together ahead of the first race. Winners and Runners Up in each league at the end of the year will be awarded a trophy at the 2015 Club Presentation Night. Any questions, please ask us! - richspooner

Wed 25th Sep 2013Virgin London Marathon 2014
The Marathon News magazine, which all registrants should receive in the next seven days, will officially confirm whether you have been successful in the 2014 Virgin Money London Marathon ballot. Keep your magazine AND the envelope with your name on it to enter the Club Draw at the AGM for our 3 places. Anyone in already? I've got a GFA place and (heel permitting) hope to have a 4(+) hour target Team In Training - TIT for short - starting in the new year - ElPresidente

Places confirmed on the VLM portal this morning!- ElPresidente, 2013-12-12

Yey best get lots of training in so excited but nervous at same time. Sarah- bionicstephen, 2013-12-09

VLM Club place draw at AGM, see above.- ElPresidente, 2013-11-12

We have had 3 Club places confirmed today. 2 places will be given to VLM First Timers and then those who were not successful in round 1 and everyone else with rejection letters will be put in the 2nd draw for the 3rd place - as agreed at AGM. Don't forget we need your personal rejection evidence to qualify for draw. Get this to me before draw in December - we have until 17/1/14 to register the 3 runners.- ElPresidente, 2013-10-04

Have suffered rejection once again I'm afraid. Looks like the club ballot for me - have been called a T*T so many times this looks right up my street!- CarlH, 2013-09-26

Mon 9th Dec 2013Club Mag
Every year there is a club mag produced for all members of the BaHa gang. This contains many many stats, but also some great little stories, jokes and the odd recipe. They are starting to pull the mag together now ready for next year, so if there are any races you want to report on, running related stories you want to share with the club, the recipe for that food that always hits the spot post run or anything else for that matter. Set your pen to paper, fingers to keyboard or chalk to slate and let Ian or Rach have the digital copy by early to mid Jan and lets make this mag a great read in every sense (not just for those who like to look at running stats!) - Amz

Fri 27th Sep 2013Winter Training
Details of winter training sessions are now available in the Diary section (Hit the "Training session" icon at the top of the page). Shaun Clarkson says "All these sessions are designed to improve leg speed, strength and recovery rates. A full explanation of the session will be given prior to commencement. These sessions can be physically and mentally hard especially if done alone especially if you have never done this type of targeted training before. The club sessions will help make them more achievable. Everybody works at their own rate, everybody will be working hard but you will have the support of your team mates throughout. Work hard together, improve together and achieve success together in the coming season. That’s what clubs are for." - Jerzy

Mon 18th Apr 2011Club Nights Meeting Point
We've got a new meeting point and new changing rooms for the Harriers. The new block at the back of the complex over the Griffin Suite and overlooking the Rugby field will be our new home with exclusive changing rooms and new dedicated noticeboards and meeting area just for us BaHas. We will be able to introduce a better system for runners to break into pace groups too. It's easily reached from the big car park, up the road by 5-a-side pitches then turn right in front of rugby field. From foyer - forward through 3 sets of double doors and up steps. Meanwhile try and inform anyone you see and watch out for people who don't yet know. We'll keep a look out and redirect people for the next few weeks until it all settles in. - ElPresidente

Sat 28th Feb 2009Website photos.
A few people have asked me how they can send photos they have taken to the website. Rather than uploading them to the site which can cause space problems, you can now email them to this address: harrierspics@gmail.com They will then find their way in to the Gallery section. - Jerry
